New to the SCA? Been playing for awhile? Come join us as we showcase some of the wonderful activities that our society has to offer with a variety of classes, armored combat, a fashion show & feast!

GA State Parks require a $5 parking pass per vehicle or an annual pass. Libraries often have annual passes available to borrow.

Classes

10:00 am – Precedence and Protocol for New People – taught by Lady Astridr

The SCA has its own set of ceremonies, rewards, and recognitions which often include something unique to wear. Join Lady Astridr to learn what all the different hats, belts, circlets, crowns, and medallions mean as well as the meaning behind some of our ceremonies!

10:00 AM – Outline of a Feast – taught by Mistress Christianna MacGrain

Join Mistress Christianna for a run-down of the steps necessary to plan a successful feast!  We’ll quickly cover topics including Food Safety and Sanitation, Budget, Research, Setting the Menu, Costs, Transportation, Prep, Timing, Service, Hall Steward, Clean-Up, and even Paperwork and Receipts. 

10:30 AM – Practical Knife Skills – taught by Mistress Christianna MacGrain

Start the day off sharply and develop a keen sense and razor wit! Join Mistress Christianna in the kitchen for a primer on what you need to know to work with knives safely and efficiently (and help do some feast prep while you’re at it!)

– Honing and Sharpening
– Stance and Hand Position
– Slicing and Dicing
– Chopping and Mincing

11:30 am – Getting Started in A&S Faires – taught by Magister Lorenzo Petrucci

Are you interested in participating in A&S faires as either a judge or an entrant, but you’re not sure how the process works? In this class Lorenzo will give his personal opinions on how to approach the process with a growth mindset and create a positive experience for everyone involved.

11:30 am – Fighting for Non-Fighters – taught by Sir Iastreb Desislavich

Why did that fighter get on their knees?  What is that thing on their hand? How can you tell who won?  Why did that one fall down? Join Sir Iastreb Desislavich to get the answers to these and many more questions! Most of our events involve a fighting tournament and this class will help you watch and cheer on your favorite fighters with a better understanding of what happens.

 1:00 pm – Good Humours: A Taste of Medieval Diets – taught by Mistress Temair Cearr

An intro to medieval medical and diet theory with an emphasis on eating to suit your temperament, aid digestion and stay healthy.  Topics include:
– Know thyself
– Types of foods to avoid and indulge
– Food qualities
– Influence of spices and herbs
– Time, place and balance

1:00 pm – Seneschal 101: So you just became your local group seneschal– taught by Duke Wulfstan Thorhallsson

What you need to know as a brand new seneschal.  Covering basic responsibilities, reporting, and where to go for help to do the job when needed.

 1:00 pm – What is a Laurel? – taught by Magister Lorenzo Petrucci

Magister Lorenzo Petrucci shares his opinions on the role of the Laurel in the SCA, and what skills and qualities are needed to perform it.

 2:30 pm – Beginning European Dance with Magister Lorenzo Petrucci

This class provides an introduction to various styles of dance, and the steps used in each of them. This class is suitable for all skill levels, and no partners are required.

2:30 pm – Being the Marshal for Your Local Group – taught by Sir Iastreb Desislavich

While not the only activity in the Society, combat is certainly the best known. Every group that wants to host a practice needs an officer in charge.  Come learn that it isn’t really that difficult or scary to serve your group and the kingdom at large in this way. Taught by the Kingdom Earl Marshal, you will get all the detail you wish and have the opportunity to have your questions answered
